September 4 - Drive to Ashura and Fly to Nairobi

Today we left early as we are flying out of the Ashura Airport for a flight to Nairobi.  But we wanted to stop back in Ashura to visit the Africa Gallery.  We had stopped there for a bathroom break on our way to Ngorongoro but decided it warranted a couple of hours of serious window shopping.

The main gallery was filled with wonderful African art by of many different types and by many different artists.  We spent a good hour and a half in the gallery.

We also hit a few of the souvenir shops and then Mary decided to buy some tanzanite as a souvenir, to be made into earrings later.

Then it was on to the airport.  We could barely see Mt. Kilimanjaro but we could see enough to see some of the famed snows.

We are on a small plane with a number of people from an Abercrombe & Kent Africa tour.  Mary sat by a cofounder of Black Bear Diners.   Interesting world.

The small Masai farms we flew over reminded Mary of high school biology classes...they looked like single cell organisms as seen through a microscope.

We were picked up at the airport and delivered to our hotel, the Tamarind.  This evening there was a DJ in the bar (right next to the restaurant) so it was very loud, but we ate on the patio away from the bar.  Plus, there was a drive in concert in the field right outside of our room.  Very loud.  Fortunately, they quit playing at 9:00 so we got a good night’s sleep.
