September 8 – Loldia Conservation Area

Today we drove to nearby Crater Lake and it's small, surrounding nature conservancy.  There is a small lodge there with a restaurant right on the water’s edge.  Unfortunately, the water in this lake has also risen quite a lot and their garden and the walk that encircled the lake are all under water.

Interesting signs in the gift shop.

There were a lot of black and white colobus monkeys in the parking lot.

We opted to not walk around the top of the crater.  We did take a drive through the small conservancy in which the crater and lodge are located.  There were lots of giraffes

and elands in the conservancy.

Along the way we passed a cabbage field where a number of vervet monkeys were having lunch.

Back at our lodge the impalas came in in force.  There is a large herd (one male and something like 35 or more females) that spend time on the grounds.

They hop the electric fence and feel quite safe at night.

Some pretty birds joined our table to try to snack off the leftovers.

We also saw more vervet monkeys around the grounds.

And we spent a bit of time with Poppy.  She was real good when the impalas showed up…didn’t even look like she was thinking about chasing them.
